Security questionnaire answers for small SaaS teams

Security questionnaire answers for small SaaS teams is a SaaS idea for founders and CTOs of SaaS companies starting to sell to larger businesses, priced to test at $79 a month per company. Bigger prospects send long security spreadsheets, and the founder answers each one from scratch at night. With it, founders keep approved security answers in one library, and AI drafts each new questionnaire from them for a person to check.

. A starting point we wrote, not market research: run the 7-day test before you build.

What problem does it solve?

Bigger prospects send long security spreadsheets, and the founder answers each one from scratch at night. Answers drift between deals, and a slow reply stalls the sale.

Why now: Buyers ask how vendors use AI and handle data before they sign, and AI can now match new questions to answers already written.

What do they use today?

Most founders dig through old emails and past spreadsheets for a similar reply, then paste and edit it. A few keep a shared document of stock answers, though nobody owns it or checks it is still true.

How does it work?

A founder builds a library of approved answers, each with an owner and a review date. When a prospect sends a questionnaire, the founder uploads the spreadsheet and gets draft answers matched from that library, each marked for review and showing the answer it came from. A person checks every draft, then exports the finished answers back into the buyer’s own spreadsheet.

What goes in the first version?

  • A library of approved answers with owners and review dates
  • Upload a questionnaire spreadsheet and get draft answers
  • Every draft marked for review, with its source answer shown
  • Export back into the buyer’s spreadsheet
  • A shareable page of security documents for prospects

Who pays, and how much?

Who pays
Founders and CTOs of SaaS companies starting to sell to larger businesses
Price to test
$79 a month per company

A flat price per company fits an early team where one or two people answer every questionnaire, so there are no seats to count. The company pays monthly, as it does for its other small tools.

How to test it in 7 days

  1. 1Ask five SaaS founders about their last security questionnaire and how long it took.
  2. 2Read founder subreddits for complaints about security reviews slowing deals.
  3. 3Answer one founder’s next questionnaire with a rough prototype and ask for a pre-order.

Where to find the first customers

  • Founder communities on LinkedIn and in SaaS subreddits
  • Fractional CTOs and security consultants who help startups
  • Accelerators that prepare startups to sell to larger companies

What are the risks?

  • Compliance platforms include questionnaire tools, so stay cheaper and aimed at early teams.
  • A wrong answer could mislead a buyer, so a person must approve every draft.

You are in a fresh copy of the shipanysaas starter kit, a pnpm and Turborepo monorepo: the Next.js web app is in apps/web and the Supabase database, with its migrations, in apps/web/supabase. Help me build the first version of Security questionnaire answers for small SaaS teams.

Read AGENTS.md first, then the AGENTS.md in every folder you work in: the kit's rules there win over your defaults. When a skill in .agents/skills (also in .claude/skills and .cursor/skills) matches a task, use it.

## The product
- What it does: Founders keep approved security answers in one library, and AI drafts each new questionnaire from them for a person to check.
- Who pays: Founders and CTOs of SaaS companies starting to sell to larger businesses
- Their problem: Bigger prospects send long security spreadsheets, and the founder answers each one from scratch at night. Answers drift between deals, and a slow reply stalls the sale.
- Price to test: $79 a month per company (a plan in apps/web/config/billing.config.ts)

## Build only this first version
1. A library of approved answers with owners and review dates
2. Upload a questionnaire spreadsheet and get draft answers
3. Every draft marked for review, with its source answer shown
4. Export back into the buyer’s spreadsheet
5. A shareable page of security documents for prospects

## Already in the kit: reuse it, never rebuild it
- Teams and roles: team accounts with members, roles and invitations
- Billing: Stripe or Lemon Squeezy subscriptions, per seat or usage-based, and one-off payments
- Emails: transactional email through Resend or Nodemailer
- In-app notifications: a notifications bell in the web app

## New code it needs
- Answer library with owners and review dates
- Spreadsheet import, AI matching and export
- Review flow for every draft

## How to work
1. Plan first: list the database tables (with row-level security, so each team only sees its own rows), the pages and the server actions for the first feature. Then stop and wait for my OK.
2. Build one feature at a time with the kit's own UI and form components, with a migration for every schema change and user-facing text in the translation files.
3. After each feature, run the verification steps in AGENTS.md, fix what they find, and tell me what you built and what comes next.

## Rules
- Ask me before you add a dependency, delete a file, or change sign-in, billing or the admin panel.
- Leave the parts of the kit this product doesn't use as they are.

Done when every first-version feature works for a signed-in team and the AGENTS.md checks pass.
