Listener questions inbox for podcasts

Listener questions inbox for podcasts is a SaaS idea for podcast hosts and small podcast teams who run Q&A or call-in segments, priced to test at $15 a month per show. Listener questions arrive through comments, emails and direct messages on several apps. With it, podcasters collect listener questions and voice messages from one link, tag the best ones, and plan them into episodes.

. A starting point we wrote, not market research: run the 7-day test before you build.

What problem does it solve?

Listener questions arrive through comments, emails and direct messages on several apps. Good ones get lost, voice notes sound poor, and hosts can’t find that great question from last month.

Why now: Listeners are used to sending voice notes, and shows with listener segments keep audiences coming back each week.

What do they use today?

Hosts scroll through social media comments, email and direct messages before each recording, copying good questions into a notes file. Voice notes arrive as phone recordings that need cleaning up before they can air.

How does it work?

A listener opens the show’s public page and types a question or records a voice message. The host finds it in the inbox, tags and rates it, and searches later to plan the best ones into upcoming episodes. The editor downloads each voice message as an audio file, and the listener gets an email when their question airs.

What goes in the first version?

  • Public page where listeners type or record a question
  • Inbox with tags, ratings and search
  • Plan questions into upcoming episodes
  • Download voice messages as audio files for editing
  • Email to the listener when their question airs

Who pays, and how much?

Who pays
Podcast hosts and small podcast teams who run Q&A or call-in segments
Price to test
$15 a month per show

A price per show fits how a podcast is run, with one audience, one question page and one team. Everyone on the show’s team shares the inbox with no extra seats, replacing the notes file kept today.

How to test it in 7 days

  1. 1Ask ten podcasters in podcasting subreddits where listener questions arrive and how they keep them.
  2. 2Give one show a simple question form for a week and count how many questions come in.
  3. 3Ask three podcast editors whether clean voice files from listeners would save them time.

Where to find the first customers

  • Podcasting subreddits
  • Podcaster groups on Facebook and Discord
  • Freelance podcast editors and producers

What are the risks?

  • Small shows get few questions, so aim at shows with an active audience.
  • Open forms attract spam and abuse; moderation must be built in early.

You are in a fresh copy of the shipanysaas starter kit, a pnpm and Turborepo monorepo: the Next.js web app is in apps/web and the Supabase database, with its migrations, in apps/web/supabase. Help me build the first version of Listener questions inbox for podcasts.

Read AGENTS.md first, then the AGENTS.md in every folder you work in: the kit's rules there win over your defaults. When a skill in .agents/skills (also in .claude/skills and .cursor/skills) matches a task, use it.

## The product
- What it does: Podcasters collect listener questions and voice messages from one link, tag the best ones, and plan them into episodes.
- Who pays: Podcast hosts and small podcast teams who run Q&A or call-in segments
- Their problem: Listener questions arrive through comments, emails and direct messages on several apps. Good ones get lost, voice notes sound poor, and hosts can’t find that great question from last month.
- Price to test: $15 a month per show (a plan in apps/web/config/billing.config.ts)

## Build only this first version
1. Public page where listeners type or record a question
2. Inbox with tags, ratings and search
3. Plan questions into upcoming episodes
4. Download voice messages as audio files for editing
5. Email to the listener when their question airs

## Already in the kit: reuse it, never rebuild it
- Teams and roles: team accounts with members, roles and invitations
- Billing: Stripe or Lemon Squeezy subscriptions, per seat or usage-based, and one-off payments
- Emails: transactional email through Resend or Nodemailer
- In-app notifications: a notifications bell in the web app

## New code it needs
- Public question page with voice recording
- Tagged inbox and episode planner
- Spam and abuse filtering

## How to work
1. Plan first: list the database tables (with row-level security, so each team only sees its own rows), the pages and the server actions for the first feature. Then stop and wait for my OK.
2. Build one feature at a time with the kit's own UI and form components, with a migration for every schema change and user-facing text in the translation files.
3. After each feature, run the verification steps in AGENTS.md, fix what they find, and tell me what you built and what comes next.

## Rules
- Ask me before you add a dependency, delete a file, or change sign-in, billing or the admin panel.
- Leave the parts of the kit this product doesn't use as they are.

Done when every first-version feature works for a signed-in team and the AGENTS.md checks pass.
