# Term rebooking and weekly timetables for music teachers

Term rebooking and weekly timetables for music teachers is a SaaS idea for private music teachers with full studios and small music schools, priced to test at $19 a month per teacher. Every term, teachers rebuild the weekly timetable through texts and emails. With it, music teachers open next term’s lesson times, returning families pick first, and the timetable fills without chasing anyone by text.

_Published 19 Oct 2026. A starting point we wrote, not market research: run the 7-day test before you build._

## What problem does it solve?

Every term, teachers rebuild the weekly timetable through texts and emails. Families want their old slot, siblings want back-to-back lessons, and someone always gets forgotten.

**Why now:** After-school timetables change every term, and families expect to book activities online like everything else.

## What do they use today?

Most teachers message families one by one at the end of term, copy the replies into a paper grid or spreadsheet, and fix clashes by hand. Whoever answers last gets whatever slot remains.

## How does it work?

Each term the teacher publishes the open lesson times for next term. Returning families choose first and rank their preferred times, then new students get their turn, and every family accepts the studio policy as they enrol. The teacher confirms who gets which slot, and the finished timetable is emailed to every family.

## What goes in the first version?

- Publish next term’s open lesson times by teacher
- Returning families choose first, then new students
- Families rank preferred times; the teacher confirms
- Studio policy accepted with each enrolment
- Confirmed timetable emailed to every family

## Who pays, and how much?

- **Who pays:** Private music teachers with full studios and small music schools
- **Price to test:** $19 a month per teacher

A price per teacher suits a studio where each teacher owns a diary of lessons, and a small school pays for each teacher using it. A sole teacher can approve the monthly charge without asking anyone.

## How to test it in 7 days

1. Ask ten music teachers how long term rebooking took last time and what went wrong.
2. Post a mock-up of the booking page in music teacher groups on Facebook and collect emails.
3. Offer to run one teacher’s next-term rebooking from a form and a spreadsheet.

## Where to find the first customers

- Music teacher groups on Facebook
- Music teacher subreddits
- Regional music teachers’ associations

## What are the risks?

- Rebooking happens a few times a year, so the tool must earn its keep between terms.
- Studio management apps already cover lessons and billing; stay narrow and easy.

## How to build it on shipanysaas

4 of the parts it needs are already in the kit. Get the kit, open it in Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, and paste the starting prompt.

**Already in the kit:** Teams and roles, Billing, Emails, In-app notifications

**You build:**

- Term booking windows with priority for returning families

### The starting prompt

```text
You are in a fresh copy of the shipanysaas starter kit, a pnpm and Turborepo monorepo: the Next.js web app is in apps/web and the Supabase database, with its migrations, in apps/web/supabase. Help me build the first version of Term rebooking and weekly timetables for music teachers.
Read AGENTS.md first, then the AGENTS.md in every folder you work in: the kit's rules there win over your defaults. When a skill in .agents/skills (also in .claude/skills and .cursor/skills) matches a task, use it.
## The product
- What it does: Music teachers open next term’s lesson times, returning families pick first, and the timetable fills without chasing anyone by text.
- Who pays: Private music teachers with full studios and small music schools
- Their problem: Every term, teachers rebuild the weekly timetable through texts and emails. Families want their old slot, siblings want back-to-back lessons, and someone always gets forgotten.
- Price to test: $19 a month per teacher (a plan in apps/web/config/billing.config.ts)
## Build only this first version
1. Publish next term’s open lesson times by teacher
2. Returning families choose first, then new students
3. Families rank preferred times; the teacher confirms
4. Studio policy accepted with each enrolment
5. Confirmed timetable emailed to every family
## Already in the kit: reuse it, never rebuild it
- Teams and roles: team accounts with members, roles and invitations
- Billing: Stripe or Lemon Squeezy subscriptions, per seat or usage-based, and one-off payments
- Emails: transactional email through Resend or Nodemailer
- In-app notifications: a notifications bell in the web app
## New code it needs
- Term booking windows with priority for returning families
- Preference ranking and teacher confirmation
- Timetable view and confirmation emails
## How to work
1. Plan first: list the database tables (with row-level security, so each team only sees its own rows), the pages and the server actions for the first feature. Then stop and wait for my OK.
2. Build one feature at a time with the kit's own UI and form components, with a migration for every schema change and user-facing text in the translation files.
3. After each feature, run the verification steps in AGENTS.md, fix what they find, and tell me what you built and what comes next.
## Rules
- Ask me before you add a dependency, delete a file, or change sign-in, billing or the admin panel.
- Leave the parts of the kit this product doesn't use as they are.
Done when every first-version feature works for a signed-in team and the AGENTS.md checks pass.
