# Digital food safety logs for small restaurants

Digital food safety logs for small restaurants is a SaaS idea for owners of independent restaurants, cafés and food trucks, priced to test at $25 a month per location. Temperature and cleaning logs live on clipboards that get wet, lost or filled in from memory at the end of the week. With it, staff record fridge temperatures, cleaning and deliveries on a phone, and the owner has the record ready for an inspection.

## What problem does it solve?

Temperature and cleaning logs live on clipboards that get wet, lost or filled in from memory at the end of the week. Before an inspection, owners scramble for records they can’t trust.

**Why now:** Kitchens already run orders and rotas on tablets and phones, so a log on the same screen fits the routine.

## What do they use today?

Most small kitchens use paper sheets pinned near the fridge, or a message in the staff chat saying the checks are done. Owners find the gaps only when they look for the records.

## How does it work?

Before service, a cook picks up the kitchen phone and ticks through the day’s checklist: fridge temperatures, cleaning jobs and the morning delivery. If something is wrong, such as a warm fridge, the cook adds a photo and a note on what was done. A reminder email goes out when a check is missed, and the owner prints the records by date when an inspector calls.

## What goes in the first version?

- Daily checklists for fridges, cleaning and deliveries
- Reminder emails when a check is due or missed
- A photo and a note when something goes wrong
- Records by date, ready to print for an inspection
- Several locations under one owner

## Who pays, and how much?

- **Who pays:** Owners of independent restaurants, cafés and food trucks
- **Price to test:** $25 a month per location

The price follows the location, because each site has its own fridges, checks and inspections. Owners of several sites pay for each one, and staff are not counted, which suits kitchens where people come and go.

## How to test it in 7 days

1. Ask ten owners in r/restaurantowners how they keep temperature logs today.
2. Show three local cafés a printed mock-up and ask what’s missing.
3. Check what your local health authority says a log must show.

## Where to find the first customers

- r/restaurantowners
- Local hospitality associations
- Food-safety trainers and kitchen equipment suppliers

## What are the risks?

- Rules differ by city and country, so the record format must adapt.
- Busy kitchens skip anything slow; each check must take a few taps.

## How to build it on shipanysaas

5 of the parts it needs are already in the kit, the phone app with the All-in plan. Get the kit, open it in Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, and paste the starting prompt.

**Already in the kit:** Teams and roles, Billing, Emails, In-app notifications, Phone app with All-in

**You build:**

- Checklist templates and schedules
- Inspection-ready records by date
- Push reminders on the phone (the kit has no push)

### The starting prompt

```text
You are in a fresh copy of the shipanysaas starter kit, a pnpm and Turborepo monorepo: the Next.js web app is in apps/web and the Supabase database, with its migrations, in apps/web/supabase; with the All-in plan, the Expo phone app is in apps/native. Help me build the first version of Digital food safety logs for small restaurants.
Read AGENTS.md first, then the AGENTS.md in every folder you work in: the kit's rules there win over your defaults. When a skill in .agents/skills (also in .claude/skills and .cursor/skills) matches a task, use it.
## The product
- What it does: Staff record fridge temperatures, cleaning and deliveries on a phone, and the owner has the record ready for an inspection.
- Who pays: Owners of independent restaurants, cafés and food trucks
- Their problem: Temperature and cleaning logs live on clipboards that get wet, lost or filled in from memory at the end of the week. Before an inspection, owners scramble for records they can’t trust.
- Price to test: $25 a month per location (a plan in apps/web/config/billing.config.ts)
## Build only this first version
1. Daily checklists for fridges, cleaning and deliveries
2. Reminder emails when a check is due or missed
3. A photo and a note when something goes wrong
4. Records by date, ready to print for an inspection
5. Several locations under one owner
## Already in the kit: reuse it, never rebuild it
- Teams and roles: team accounts with members, roles and invitations
- Billing: Stripe or Lemon Squeezy subscriptions, per seat or usage-based, and one-off payments
- Emails: transactional email through Resend or Nodemailer
- In-app notifications: a notifications bell in the web app
- Phone app: an iPhone, iPad and Android app on the same backend (All-in plan)
## New code it needs
- Checklist templates and schedules
- Inspection-ready records by date
- Push reminders on the phone (the kit has no push)
## How to work
1. Plan first: list the database tables (with row-level security, so each team only sees its own rows), the pages and the server actions for the first feature. Then stop and wait for my OK.
2. Build one feature at a time with the kit's own UI and form components, with a migration for every schema change and user-facing text in the translation files.
3. After each feature, run the verification steps in AGENTS.md, fix what they find, and tell me what you built and what comes next.
## Rules
- Ask me before you add a dependency, delete a file, or change sign-in, billing or the admin panel.
- Leave the parts of the kit this product doesn't use as they are.
- If apps/native is not in your copy (the Starter plan), build the web app only.
Done when every first-version feature works for a signed-in team and the AGENTS.md checks pass.
