# Thumbs-down feedback inbox for AI product teams

Thumbs-down feedback inbox for AI product teams is a SaaS idea for founders and small teams with AI chat or assistant features in production, priced to test at $49 a month per product. Users click thumbs-down, and the rating lands in a database table nobody reads. With it, small AI product teams get every thumbs-down with its conversation, grouped with similar complaints and ready to become a test.

## What problem does it solve?

Users click thumbs-down, and the rating lands in a database table nobody reads. The team can’t tell which failures repeat, so prompt changes are guesses that break other answers.

**Why now:** Many products now ship an AI assistant, and each model or prompt change can quietly break answers that used to work.

## What do they use today?

Most teams skim a few conversations when someone remembers, or forward a complaint to the engineer who owns the prompt. There is no running list, so the same failure gets reported again and again.

## How does it work?

When a user gives an answer a thumbs-down, the product’s code sends the answer and its conversation to the inbox with one API call, and similar complaints land together in a group. The founder opens a group, tags its cause as the prompt, missing data or the model, and exports it as test cases for their own checks. A weekly email lists new and growing groups.

## What goes in the first version?

- An API call that sends a rated answer with its conversation
- An inbox of bad answers grouped by similar complaint
- Tag each group by cause: prompt, missing data or model
- Export a group as test cases for your own checks
- A weekly email of new and growing problems

## Who pays, and how much?

- **Who pays:** Founders and small teams with AI chat or assistant features in production
- **Price to test:** $49 a month per product

Charging per product matches how AI teams work: each assistant has its own prompts, users and failures, so each needs its own inbox. A team with one assistant pays for one.

## How to test it in 7 days

1. Ask five founders with AI features what they do with thumbs-down ratings today.
2. Read AI builder subreddits for posts about users reporting bad answers.
3. Group one team’s last month of bad ratings by hand and show them the result.

## Where to find the first customers

- AI builder communities on LinkedIn and in developer subreddits
- Agencies that build AI assistants for clients
- Newsletters for AI product builders

## What are the risks?

- AI monitoring tools already collect feedback, so the angle is triage, not logging.
- Conversations can hold personal data, so redaction and retention settings matter.

## How to build it on shipanysaas

4 of the parts it needs are already in the kit. Get the kit, open it in Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, and paste the starting prompt.

**Already in the kit:** Teams and roles, Billing, Emails, In-app notifications

**You build:**

- Feedback API with conversation capture
- AI grouping of similar complaints
- Test-case export

### The starting prompt

```text
You are in a fresh copy of the shipanysaas starter kit, a pnpm and Turborepo monorepo: the Next.js web app is in apps/web and the Supabase database, with its migrations, in apps/web/supabase. Help me build the first version of Thumbs-down feedback inbox for AI product teams.
Read AGENTS.md first, then the AGENTS.md in every folder you work in: the kit's rules there win over your defaults. When a skill in .agents/skills (also in .claude/skills and .cursor/skills) matches a task, use it.
## The product
- What it does: Small AI product teams get every thumbs-down with its conversation, grouped with similar complaints and ready to become a test.
- Who pays: Founders and small teams with AI chat or assistant features in production
- Their problem: Users click thumbs-down, and the rating lands in a database table nobody reads. The team can’t tell which failures repeat, so prompt changes are guesses that break other answers.
- Price to test: $49 a month per product (a plan in apps/web/config/billing.config.ts)
## Build only this first version
1. An API call that sends a rated answer with its conversation
2. An inbox of bad answers grouped by similar complaint
3. Tag each group by cause: prompt, missing data or model
4. Export a group as test cases for your own checks
5. A weekly email of new and growing problems
## Already in the kit: reuse it, never rebuild it
- Teams and roles: team accounts with members, roles and invitations
- Billing: Stripe or Lemon Squeezy subscriptions, per seat or usage-based, and one-off payments
- Emails: transactional email through Resend or Nodemailer
- In-app notifications: a notifications bell in the web app
## New code it needs
- Feedback API with conversation capture
- AI grouping of similar complaints
- Test-case export
## How to work
1. Plan first: list the database tables (with row-level security, so each team only sees its own rows), the pages and the server actions for the first feature. Then stop and wait for my OK.
2. Build one feature at a time with the kit's own UI and form components, with a migration for every schema change and user-facing text in the translation files.
3. After each feature, run the verification steps in AGENTS.md, fix what they find, and tell me what you built and what comes next.
## Rules
- Ask me before you add a dependency, delete a file, or change sign-in, billing or the admin panel.
- Leave the parts of the kit this product doesn't use as they are.
Done when every first-version feature works for a signed-in team and the AGENTS.md checks pass.
