# Safe AI-agent access to internal tools

Safe AI-agent access to internal tools is a SaaS idea for small software and operations teams that use AI agents at work, priced to test at $99 a month per team. People paste internal data into AI chats or hand agents broad API keys. With it, small software teams give AI agents read access to internal data through one gateway, with keys they can revoke and a log of every call.

## What problem does it solve?

People paste internal data into AI chats or hand agents broad API keys. Nobody knows what an agent read, and revoking access means rotating everything.

**Why now:** Agents can now call tools through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), and teams need a controlled way to connect company data.

## What do they use today?

Most teams export a spreadsheet for the agent to read, or let it use a developer’s own login. Access rules live in a document or in someone’s head, and there is no list of what was read.

## How does it work?

An engineer connects a database or an internal API to the gateway as read-only tools, then creates a key for each person and picks which tools that key may use. The person’s agent connects to the gateway’s endpoint and reads company data through those tools. Every call lands in the log, and if a key leaks or someone leaves, the team revokes that one key.

## What goes in the first version?

- Connect a database or an API as read-only tools
- Keys per team and per person, revocable at any time
- A log of every call an agent made
- Limits on which tools each key can use
- An MCP endpoint agents connect to

## Who pays, and how much?

- **Who pays:** Small software and operations teams that use AI agents at work
- **Price to test:** $99 a month per team

A flat price per team fits a group that shares data sources and rules. It sits alongside the other tools a small team pays for monthly, so one person can approve it.

## How to test it in 7 days

1. Ask in r/ExperiencedDevs how teams give AI agents access to internal data.
2. Interview five engineering leads about their AI access rules.
3. Run one internal API through a prototype for a friendly team.

## Where to find the first customers

- r/ExperiencedDevs
- Developer communities on Discord and X
- Newsletters for engineering leaders

## What are the risks?

- Security buyers expect audits and a track record.
- Large platforms are building the same controls.

## How to build it on shipanysaas

4 of the parts it needs are already in the kit. Get the kit, open it in Claude Code, Codex or Cursor, and paste the starting prompt.

**Already in the kit:** Sign-in, Teams and roles, Billing, Admin panel

**You build:**

- Connectors for databases and APIs
- MCP endpoint with scoped keys
- Call log and revocation

[Get the kit](https://shipanysaas-demo.vercel.app/pricing)

### The starting prompt

```text
You are in a fresh copy of the shipanysaas starter kit, a pnpm and Turborepo monorepo: the Next.js web app is in apps/web and the Supabase database, with its migrations, in apps/web/supabase. Help me build the first version of Safe AI-agent access to internal tools.
Read AGENTS.md first, then the AGENTS.md in every folder you work in: the kit's rules there win over your defaults. When a skill in .agents/skills (also in .claude/skills and .cursor/skills) matches a task, use it.
## The product
- What it does: Small software teams give AI agents read access to internal data through one gateway, with keys they can revoke and a log of every call.
- Who pays: Small software and operations teams that use AI agents at work
- Their problem: People paste internal data into AI chats or hand agents broad API keys. Nobody knows what an agent read, and revoking access means rotating everything.
- Price to test: $99 a month per team (a plan in apps/web/config/billing.config.ts)
## Build only this first version
1. Connect a database or an API as read-only tools
2. Keys per team and per person, revocable at any time
3. A log of every call an agent made
4. Limits on which tools each key can use
5. An MCP endpoint agents connect to
## Already in the kit: reuse it, never rebuild it
- Sign-in: email and password or Google, plus magic links and passkeys you can switch on
- Teams and roles: team accounts with members, roles and invitations
- Billing: Stripe or Lemon Squeezy subscriptions, per seat or usage-based, and one-off payments
- Admin panel: a super-admin panel that needs two-step sign-in
## New code it needs
- Connectors for databases and APIs
- MCP endpoint with scoped keys
- Call log and revocation
## How to work
1. Plan first: list the database tables (with row-level security, so each team only sees its own rows), the pages and the server actions for the first feature. Then stop and wait for my OK.
2. Build one feature at a time with the kit's own UI and form components, with a migration for every schema change and user-facing text in the translation files.
3. After each feature, run the verification steps in AGENTS.md, fix what they find, and tell me what you built and what comes next.
## Rules
- Ask me before you add a dependency, delete a file, or change sign-in, billing or the admin panel.
- Leave the parts of the kit this product doesn't use as they are.
Done when every first-version feature works for a signed-in team and the AGENTS.md checks pass.
